Nile River Excursions at Murchison Falls

The Nile River is the heart of Murchison Falls National Park, carving a path through the wilderness and creating one of Uganda's most iconic safari experiences. Our boat excursions offer a breathtaking perspective on this mighty river, bringing you face-to-face with Africa's aquatic and riverside wildlife and the sheer, raw power of the world's longest river.

We offer a distinct, yet equally unforgettable, river experience

The Launch Trip to the Bottom of Murchison Falls

This is the park's most famous excursion, an exhilarating journey upstream on the Victoria Nile toward the base of the spectacular Murchison Falls. Over the course of approximately 3 hours, you'll travel a stunning 17km (10.5 miles) through one of the most concentrated wildlife zones in the park.

What You Will See:

  • Prepare your camera for colossal pods of Hippos grunting in the water, massive Nile Crocodiles basking with jaws agape on the sandbanks, and riverside visitors like Elephants and buffaloes coming down to drink and bathe.
  • The riverbanks are a birdwatcher's paradise, home to brilliant species like the African Fish Eagle, various Kingfishers, Goliath Herons, and a large, noisy colony of Red-throated Bee-eaters nesting in the cliffs.
  • The journey culminates at the very base of Murchison Falls, where the entire volume of the Nile River is violently forced through a narrow 7-meter (23-foot) gorge. You will feel the rumble, hear the deafening roar, and witness the explosive cascade before the river plunges 43 meters (141 feet) into the "Devil's Cauldron." The resulting mist often creates a spectacular, permanent rainbow right before your eyes.
  • Head downstream for a more serene and exploratory cruise to where the Victoria Nile flows into Lake Albert. This area is characterized by vast papyrus swamps and calmer, wider waters, making it a dream for birders. You will still see plenty of hippos and crocodiles, but the focus shifts to the stunning landscapes and birdlife as the river widens toward the expanse of Lake Albert.
