6 Days Uganda Primates and Wildlife safari Itinerary

Day 1: Exploring Kibale National Park and Fort Portal

Before we start our safari adventure, we'll prepare and then drive for about 5 hours to reach Fort Portal and the Kibale Forest National Park.

During the journey, we'll travel on both paved and unpaved roads, passing through traditional Ugandan villages where locals work on their crops like millet, sorghum, beans, and maize. The lush hills and scenery along the way offer great photo opportunities.

As we near Fort Portal, nestled in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, we'll see vast tea plantations stretching out before us. It's a striking change from the countryside we just traveled through.

Upon reaching Fort Portal, we'll head to Kibale Forest, known for its diverse primate population and abundant birdlife. We might take some time to explore Fort Portal, famous for its weaving and basketry.

In the afternoon, we'll visit a nearby forest area known for primate sightings and other wildlife. We might spot various animals like blue monkeys, baboons, otters, and many bird species.

Accommodation options range from upscale lodges to midrange guesthouses and budget-friendly camping options.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Queen Elizabeth National Park

We'll meet at Kanyankyu River camp at 8:00 AM for the highlight of our trip: chimpanzee tracking. Kibale National Forest is home to several chimp families, and we'll also have the chance to see other primates and birds during our walk.

Afterwards, we'll head to Queen Elizabeth National Park, about a 3-hour drive away. This park boasts diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes, including the Rwenzori Mountains.

In Queen Elizabeth National Park, we can expect to see animals like Uganda kob, elephants, lions, and various bird species. Accommodation options are available for different budgets.

Day 3: Exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park

We'll start the day with an early morning game drive in the northern part of the park, where we'll search for lions, elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife.

In the afternoon, we'll go on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, offering close encounters with hippos, buffalo, and a variety of birdlife.

Accommodation options remain the same as the previous day.

Day 4: Journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

After breakfast, we'll head further south towards Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. We might pass through Ishasha, known for its tree-climbing lions, or take an alternative route through cultivated areas.

Accommodation options in Bwindi cater to different budgets, from luxury lodges to budget-friendly campsites.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Today is the highlight of our trip as we embark on gorilla trekking. After a briefing, we'll trek through the forest with guides and trackers to find a mountain gorilla family. Trekking can be challenging, but the reward of seeing these majestic creatures up close is unforgettable.

Day 6: Return to Kampala

After an early breakfast, we'll drive back to Kampala, enjoying the scenic views of southwestern Uganda along the way. We'll cross the Equator line before reaching Kampala, where our journey ends.
