Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda
Start your 5-day Uganda-Rwanda safari adventure by getting picked up from Kigali International by our guide. He will then give you a quick overview of the trip and drive you to your hotel for check-in and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Enjoy an early morning breakfast before checking out and transferring to Volcanoes Park headquarters. You'll receive a mandatory briefing about the Gorilla trekking activity; ensure you've packed lunch and water, and consider hiring porters, as the time spent searching for the gorillas in the jungle is highly unpredictable.
Following the ranger briefing and family allocation, you will head into the forest, tracking the gentle giants, which can take anywhere from a few hours to a full day, depending on their location, though those who aren't physically fit can hire a sedan chair service. Once you encounter a gorilla family, you'll be allowed to spend a maximum of one hour observing, taking videos, and photographs, before returning to your lodge for dinner and an evening visit to the Ibwachu Cultural Village for entertainment and a cultural experience.
Day 3: Cross-border transfer to Uganda
After an early morning breakfast, your guide will take you on a city tour of Kigali and a visit to the Genocide Memorial and the grave of Dian Fossey. After lunch, you will transfer to Mgahinga National Park in Uganda.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga.
Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park offers a truly unique and scenic encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas, set against the backdrop of the dramatic Virunga Volcanoes. Although it is Uganda's smallest national park, Mgahinga is renowned as the place "where gold meets silver," as it is the only park that hosts both mountain gorillas (the "silver") and the rare, endemic golden monkeys. Trekkers are guided through the dense montane forest to find the park's one habituated gorilla family, the Nyakagezi group, and upon locating them, spend a precious, life-changing hour observing their fascinating behavior in their natural volcanic habitat.
Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali and departure.
Depending on your departure flight schedule, you may have time for last-minute souvenir shopping in Kigali.
